Hot Honey Hummus

⏱️ Prep Time: 10 minutes • 🍳 Cook Time: 0 minutes

This hot honey hummus is my personal take on a store-bought obsession — only better. It’s smooth and rich like traditional hummus, but the swirl of hot honey gives it a sweet heat that’s downright addictive. Whether you’re scooping it with pita chips or getting wild (banana chips? yes please), this one’s gonna be on repeat.

A silky swirl of hot honey hummus, drizzled with chili honey and topped with crushed red pepper

If you’ve ever stood in front of your fridge thinking, “I just need something to dip into,” this is that something. It’s the kind of snack that bridges that 3pm lull and the “I’m-hungry-but-dinner’s-not-ready” window. And let me tell you, once I tried this combo with banana chips, I was a little skeptical… but it’s like sweet plantain magic meets spicy hummus heaven. It totally works.

I started making this hummus after falling for a store version, and what I love is that this homemade recipe lets you tweak the heat, the sweetness, and even the texture. Want it ultra creamy? Blend longer and add a splash more aquafaba. Want a blast of heat? Add a pinch of cayenne or more chili flakes. You’ve got total flavor control, and it comes together faster than a trip to the grocery store.

And hey — don’t just stop at chips. I’ve spread this on wraps with grilled chicken, added a dollop to grain bowls, and even used it as a “sauce” base for a spicy flatbread. But still… pita chips and banana chips? That’s the move when you’re curled up on the couch, snack plate in hand, feeling a little fancy but also a little lazy. Perfect.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed (save the liquid!)

  • 3 tbsp tahini

  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

  • 1 ½ tbsp hot honey (plus more for drizzling)

  • 1 small clove garlic

  • 2 tbsp olive oil (plus more for topping)

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 2–3 tbsp aquafaba (liquid from chickpeas)

  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

  • 1–2 tsp chili crisp or chili oil (optional but delicious)

Steps

Step 1

Add chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, hot honey, garlic, salt, and 2 tablespoons of aquafaba to a food processor.

Step 2

Blend until mostly smooth, then slowly drizzle in the olive oil while blending.

Step 3

Scrape down the sides, taste, and adjust with more salt or lemon if needed.

Step 4

If it's too thick, add another tablespoon of aquafaba and blend again until creamy.

Step 5

Spoon into a shallow bowl. Drizzle with extra hot honey, a swirl of olive oil, and sprinkle red pepper flakes on top.

Step 6

Optional: Top with chili crisp or chili oil for extra spice and texture.

Make it your own!

Add a little lemon zest on top before serving for a citrusy punch.

  • 🥜 Go nutty
Swap tahini with peanut butter for a Thai-inspired twist.

  • 🫒 Savory spin
Mix in chopped kalamata olives for a salty-savory variation.
