Blueberry Basil Mojito

⏱️ Prep Time: 5 minutes • 🍳 Cook Time: 0 minutes

Summer in a glass, this Blueberry Basil Mojito is light, refreshing, and way too easy to sip on. Whether you're lounging by the pool or just winding down after a long day, this fruity herbaceous twist on a classic mojito is the ultimate cool-down cocktail. It’s got sweet blueberries, zesty lime, fragrant basil, and that fizzy sparkle to top it all off.

Garnished blueberry basil mojito with fresh basil sprigs, lime wedges, and ice in a tall glass

I first made this drink on a whim after coming home from the farmers’ market with a huge bunch of basil and way too many blueberries (not that I’m complaining). I had rum in the cupboard and a craving for something summery, so I mashed it all together—literally—and boom: Blueberry Basil Mojito magic. Since then, it’s become my go-to drink when friends are over or when I just want to treat myself to something fun and fresh.

The combo of basil and blueberry might sound unusual, but trust me—it’s so right. The basil brings a slight peppery edge that plays perfectly against the sweet-tart burst of blueberries. Add the zing of lime and the bubbly lift of sparkling water, and it's basically like drinking a garden party. The rum is smooth and light, letting the fresh ingredients shine instead of overpowering them.

You can whip this up in under five minutes, no fancy tools needed—just a muddler or the back of a spoon will do. I personally love using honey instead of simple syrup for a deeper, more floral sweetness, but it’s super flexible. This drink is made to be played with, and I’ll share some easy twists down below to make it your own.

🍽️ Servings: 2 • 🔥 Calories/Serving: 150

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries

  • 10–12 fresh basil leaves

  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

  • 4 oz white rum

  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda

  • Ice cubes

  • Extra blueberries and basil leaves, for garnish

Steps

Step 1

Add the blueberries, basil leaves, and lime wedges to the bottom of a cocktail shaker or sturdy glass.

Step 2

Muddle everything together gently until the blueberries burst and release their juice, and the basil becomes fragrant.

Step 3

Pour in the white rum and simple syrup or honey. Stir well to combine.

Step 4

Fill two glasses with ice.

Step 5

Strain or spoon the muddled mixture over the ice, dividing it evenly.

Step 6

Top each glass with sparkling water or club soda.

Step 7

Stir gently to combine and garnish with extra blueberries and basil leaves.

Make it your own!

  • 🍯 Try flavored honey
Lavender or orange blossom honey can add a floral twist that pairs beautifully with basil.

  • 🍋 Swap the citrus
Use lemon or even grapefruit in place of lime for a different kind of zing.

  • 🫖 Make it a mocktail
Skip the rum and double the sparkling water for a booze-free refresher.

  • 🍓 Change up the berries
Strawberries or blackberries are delicious alternatives if you're out of blueberries.

  • 🌶️ Add a kick
Muddle a thin slice of jalapeño with the basil for a subtly spicy version.
