Trader Joe's Middle Eastern Kebab Bowl

⏱️ Prep Time: 10 minutes • 🍳 Cook Time: 12 minutes

This bowl started as one of those easy Trader Joe's dinners that I threw together with ingredients I already had on hand. The frozen Middle Eastern-style kebabs do most of the heavy lifting, and with some rice, cucumber salad, warm naan, and tzatziki, it turns into a filling meal that feels like it took much more effort than it did.

Trader Joe's Middle Eastern-style kebabs served over rice with cucumber salad, garlic naan, tzatziki, and roasted red onion.

The kebabs come out surprisingly flavorful in the air fryer. I like to add a quartered red onion right into the basket while they cook. The onion softens, picks up some color, and adds another layer of flavor without creating extra dishes.

For the cucumber salad, I keep things simple. A quick toss with Greek dressing adds enough flavor and brightness to balance the richer elements in the bowl. I used Ken's Greek Dressing because that's what I had in the fridge, but any Greek-style dressing works well here.

The naan might be my favorite part. I toast the rounds, brush them with a little butter, and sprinkle on garlic powder while they're still warm. It takes less than a minute and makes them feel much more special than pulling them straight from the package.

    For the Garlic Naan

      Steps

      Step 1

Spray the kebabs and quartered red onion lightly with avocado oil.

      Step 2

Place the kebabs and onion in the air fryer basket. Cook according to the package directions, flipping if recommended. The onion should be tender with lightly browned edges when finished.

      Step 3

While the kebabs cook, toss the diced cucumber with the Greek dressing in a small bowl. Set aside.

      Step 4

Toast the naan rounds until warm and lightly crisp around the edges.

      Step 5

Brush the warm naan with melted butter and sprinkle evenly with garlic powder.

      Step 6

Divide the cooked rice between two bowls.

      Step 7

Arrange the cooked kebabs, roasted onion, cucumber salad, and a spoonful of tzatziki over the rice.

      Step 8

Sprinkle with chopped cilantro and cracked black pepper. Serve immediately with the garlic naan on the side.

      Make it your own!

      • 🥑 Add Avocado

A few slices of avocado make the bowl even more filling and add a creamy contrast to the kebabs.

      • 🍅 Add Tomatoes

Diced cherry tomatoes pair nicely with the cucumber salad and add a little extra freshness.

      • 🌶️ Turn Up the Heat

Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of hot sauce over the finished bowl.

      • 🧄 Extra Garlic Naan

Mix a little minced garlic into the melted butter before brushing the naan for even more garlic flavor.
